Ivan Meštrović Gallery
Ivan Meštrović Gallery (Croatian: Galerija Meštrović), is an art museum in Split, Croatia dedicated to the work of the 20th-century sculptor, Ivan Meštrović. The gallery preserves and presents to the public the most significant works of Meštrović, and is in itself an art monument.The permanent collection includes works of sculpture, drawings, design, furniture and architecture. Holdings include original plaster models by the artist, as well as finished works in bronze, marble and wood. The gallery building and grounds were based on the original plans by Meštrović himself, and included living and working areas, as well as exhibition spaces.

A lovely surprise

This was a lovely surprise. Already introduced to Ivan Mestrovic’s work, so didn’t think it’s this good. Location, exterior, sculptures outside, green area in the back of the museum added extra touch to the atmosphere of this place. Walking inside was amazing. We had a tour with a museum’s guide and this is something we recommend to do.

A pleasant surprise

We happened upon this gallery after our walk along the Riva and it was time well spent. We hadn't been familiar with Mestrovic's work, but were very impressed with his sculptures which spanned many Biblical pieces all the way to some lovely Art Deco/Nouveau work. The work itself is wonderfully displayed in a structure that overlooks a sculpture garden and the sea -- all built around a large central staircase. We spent a few hours here and it was time very well spent.

Superb

About a mile walk out of town but well worth it. Some majestic sculptures both in the garden and in the museum. All very well presented. Beautiful location surrounded by trees. The cafe looks out over the water.
