Labin

Labin
The medieval town of Labin is situated on the hill above Rabac. Its old name of Albona was first mentioned in 285 AD. The birthplace of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, the reformer and collaborator of Martin Luther, it is a cultural and administrative center today. The rich cultural and architectural heritage of Labin is enlivened by a number of art ateliers and by the bustling youth gathering in the coffee bars scattered around the old town. The Sculpture Park in nearby Dubrova features over 70 forma viva stone sculptures. After a walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town, pay a visit to the Town Museum with its archaeological and unique in this part of Europe, a miniature coal mine. Have a look at the Memorial collection of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, peek into the art ateliers, enjoy the view of Rabac and Cres island from the Fortica or pop into the small, elegant shops and take refreshments in one of the terraces of the local coffee bars. Whether to do business or just to have a chat, these are the places where everyone meets.

A nice and cosy place

Labin is a small, quiet town near Rabac, excellent if you want to relax and wander around. The view over the surrounding area is stunning. The old town is peaceful and the streets will surprise you around every corner. The place is just fascinating, so much history to experience on your visit. I fell in love especially with the Church of the Blessed Mary´s Birth. The food was also delicious (we had a fabulous fresh tuna sandwich and a beer). Just do not visit Labin on Sunday because almost all shops were closed.

stunning location

If you are looking for a peaceful experience, Labin is the place to go!
The lanes are narrow and almost empty, people are friendly, and you get a magnificent view to Rabac and the sea. Starigrad is just 2 minutes away. Bring your photo gear with you and enjoy this lovely litlle town! It is located on top of a hill. The location is stunning enough. Before you go there, visit their website for programs, to really enjoy the experience.
