Rab (island)
Rab is a scenic island in Kvarner Bay. It is made of contrasts with sharp rock cliffs on the east coast and gentle pebbly beaches, high places on the mountain massif that is covered with macchia and forests of Mediterranean oak. The largest town and port is Rab, and the island has a few more idyllic, coastal villages. Rab is an island of culture, from antiquity to the present day, beautiful scenery, long and pleasant walks. The Romans called it Happy Rab - Felix Arba, and they knew how to enjoy and recognize the benefits of a place. Tourists can enjoy looking at the historical heritage of the ancient town of Rab (Trg Sv. Kristofor), visit a traditional event such as the Rab Fair, the Knights' Tournament held by the Association of Rab crossbowmen and other colourful events. And when they get tired of sightseeing, then visitors can happily treat their taste buds with a famous delicacy from the island - Rab cake that in ancient times Pope Alexander III tried. The beaches, coves, greenery and scents create an atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment, and the developed tourist infrastructure makes it one of the most visited islands in the Adriatic.

The most beautiful island

I might sound bias because it is my Mother's home town after all and I have been brought up here, so Rab has a great hold on my heart! However I have been for the last 20 years been coming as a guest (considering that I've been living in England for that time) and I have experience lots of positive change, new restaurants, great service and welcoming atitude of local people (lets face it most of them don't know that that is where my roots are). I have traveled to many places but to me, there is no place in the world like Rab and I would recomend it to everyone!

A short visit to the island

2013, a short visit to the island of Rab and the old town Rab, and we stayed there right when a festival was held. 3 nights with living history giving a special atmosphere to the town of Rab. People in medieval costumes, cosy squares and streets full of interesting stands, tasty food and good wine. Many local visitors that are totally friendly. We loved the island and assume that the festival adds up a little bit to the gorgeous old town, beaches and atmosphere.

Spirited Rab

My family toured Croatia in August 2010. Our stay in Rab was one of the highlights of the 15 day trip. I highly recommend the Astoria apartments right in the middle of a lovely, spirited and interesting part of the gorgeous island of Rab. During the day we drove to distant parts of the island and spent time on various beaches. Don't miss this: on the opposite part of the main town of rab, about a 5-10 minute walk from the apartments, there is GREAT swimming, right off the edge of the town. There is not really a beach here, but sort of a prominade where sunbathers swim and soak up the sun. Bring a water proof camera because once you are in the water here, you will want to take photos of the architecture of Rab from the water. It's breathtaking.
