Žminj, a small town in the heart of Istria, is located on important transport position on the Istrian peninsula. In the old stone town centre, which sits on the hill, there is a beautiful church, while the newer part of the town extends into the valley. In the surrounding areas of Žminj, there are a number of old Istrian houses that have been renovated into rural households with a homely atmosphere where they offer the products of the wonderful countryside in their traditional Istrian cuisine. Along the roads, beside the paths, in fields or meadows, you will come across "kažun" - small stone houses that the inhabitants used to use as storage houses for food, tools, or as a shelter from the rain.
Žminj is the traditional host of one of the most popular folk festivities in Istria, the Bartulja (at the end of August), dedicated to St. Bartholomew, patron of Žminj (in the church of St. Bartholomew). Other traditional events are the Chakavian Assembly, a contest of young poets and reciters of poetry in the Chakavian dialect and the Harmonica Wedding, a competition in accordion-playing.

The town has moreto offer than expected
Since Zminj is located in the center of Istria you can reach basically every interesting place by car (which is recommended to have) within max. 25-35 min. And this small town has more to offer than we expected....the old stone town centre, a beautiful church, old Istrian houses and so on. We had great time in Casa Matiki, loved the peace, freshness and nature.
