Grapčeva Cave (Hvar)

Grapčeva Cave
Grapčeva spilja is a typical cave in the rocks of the Dalmatian island of Hvar, with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, and represents one of the most important archaeological sites in Croatia. There is only a foot way to this cave from the village of Humac. Usually, the entry into the cave is closed, and visit is only allowed with guide. Excursions are from Humac village. Archaeological findings, especially engraved and colored ceramics, represent evidence about the neolithic culture on the island in the period between 5th and 3rd millennium B.C. as well as their connections with people from today's Sicily and Greece. The function of the cave was not for living, but for practicing cult.
